Guan Yin App on IPHONE

anyways, if only life can be predicted like that. a lot of heartache can be prevented.

Or rather.. maybe somewhere out there, some god's really telling us what is going to happen, but we choose not to believe it cos it's got not basis. oh well. after lunch musing.

Life of a female expat in Shanghai

Lonely.

Firstly, you don't get many serious Shanghainese girlfriends. Everybody is just looking for that next big break with that next big ang mo guy they are sleeping with. Money money money is what they are looking for. Hopping from one expat guy to another, they are looking for someone to fund their expenses, give them something expensive, who would have time to cater to you?

Other expat girls - they either have families, and no time for you, or they are busy looking for that guy out there as well, given that there are really limited choices here. Given the pay disparity, one couldn't very well settle for a Shanghainese guy and pay for his expenses forever, could one? The choice is limited to the expat community, which of course is the hot market for the local girls who are much easier to please (read money), less demanding on the faithfulness, foeverness, emotional aspect of things. As the expat girls move from one guy to another, the learning points are the same, these guys are only after 1 thing - quick, casual sex. After a dozen of "let's just be friends", "hey, sorry, i just have to date this girl here, I promised her dinner before i met you, no promises, but i might bring her home after dinner as well", don't you finally GET IT?

Chinese guys - they know they are of a different league and would not want to waste time and wound their own ego. So it's a no go there.

Expat guys - all think they've died and gone to heaven. Pretty girls, free sex, being idolized, mis-read as being extremely rich. IT'S NO WONDER THAT THE EUROPEANS THINK THAT CHINESE ARE STUPID! Chinese girls have demeaned themselves to an unbelievable extent. Sorry that when i mean breakfast, i mean breakfast, not breakfast in your bed... oh, not interested, ok, the local girls give a better offer? oh sure go ahead.

So here I am, breakfast, lunch and dinner combined in 1 meal of KFC. Shanghai is a sick place.

pretty = more choices

Years ago, a friend, also a senior person in the company where I worked for, asked me a question: "You're so pretty and smart, you can have anyone you want, why did you choose XXX given the complicated background?"

For the purpose of this blog, I'm not going to discuss the truth of his statement, but rather the logic of it.

Pretty girls have more choices, yes, but more often than not, they have to choose from a lousy selection (read... a bunch of jerks).

It's the same with cats. The long hair, pretty ones are most often brought home by children and frivolous adults who, in few days, would realize that the cute appeal does not remedy the fact that they actually have no intention of having a cat at home at all. On the other hand, plain cats in the streets will only be picked up by genuine cat people who just want to give the cat a permanent home.

Don't blame pretty girls for being unapproachable and haughty. Look beyond and you'll see how they've been hurt after putting their heart and soul into a relationship and finding that the other party has just lost interest.

Humbling

It snowed this morning when i was walking to work, and looking out of the window, it seems to be snowing still as I eat my lunch.

Everyday, I have renewed belief that I've mastered the art of staying warm, only to wake up in the morning hopping from room to room trying to keep warm whilst getting ready for work. The weather changes everyday... so does the temperature of the water in my shower. On warmer days, the water is scalding hot. On freezing cold days, you can turn the hot water all the way and it would still be alright. There is no guarantee that the heating system in the house can keep you warm either. I want to say that wearing a lot of clothes is the only guarantee of staying warm, but I've learnt that I would be proven wrong again tomorrow.

Nothing is more humbling than the weather.

Turned cold again

after a week of nice weather, 12-17DC in end Feb, it's turning cold again.-1 to 8DC.

Fingers are usually frozen, even when at home. The cat, Mon, hides under the blanket all the time to keep warm. Latte and Cookie are so lucky.

Work is turning out great, managed to motivate the girls with career advancement etc.. The only irony is that my plan for everybody to move up properly involves me disappearring from the team to make way. It would be very sad if I have not been planning to do that for myself anyway.

Seems like there's a job in Front Office Singapore waiting for me. It would mean great career advancement. However, I need to join them now, which is bad timing. I am not willing to leave my little birds to the bears yet. Will have to see them through till Dec at least, when their feathers are all fully grown.
